Our Focus

  • Job Creation
As the mission statement says, the primary goal of WJFB is to help the poor in less developed countries to become able to help themselves. By creating income-generating small work cooperatives, WJFB helps to provide jobs and skills training for the poorest. These co-operatives have been in the form of poultry rearing, sewing and dress making, desktop publishing, and others.  Co-op members work together to develop and market their product, and share in the profits. Once fully trained, they can obtain jobs elsewhere, so that more needy people can join the co-op and learn skills.

  • Preventative Health Care
The WJFB works with rural, poverty stricken communities who have little or no access to doctors, hospitals, or health care of any sort. The infant mortality rate in these areas is high, and the children often die young from preventable diseases.  Projects designed by Partner NGOs and sponsored by WJFB, AAID, and CIDA, can provide outreach workers, and traveling doctors and nurses who go into these communities and teach the people. The communities learn about hygiene, natural and cheap medicines, nutrition, and preventative health care. Immunization programs are undertaken to stop the easily preventable deaths. Wells and Public Sanitation facilities provide clean water for a healthier population.

  • Education & Skills Training
Education is often the key to improving the living standards of the disadvantaged.  WJFB supports and sponsors several projects to build schools and provide literacy training to adults and children. This training is usually coupled with job skills training or health education.

  • Agriculture
WJFB helps farming communities in developing and implementing projects to grow food.  This food can then be sold to purchase other necessities or used by the community. An environmental focus is maintained through the use of greenhouse farming and soil conservation plans. More recently projects can benefit from solar energy powered irrigation systems and clean water supplies. Through improved food storage, farmers can keep their produce and sell when the market is most favorable. Previous to WJFB involvement, they would have had to sell cheaply as soon as the crops were harvested.

  • Food Banks
WJFB's founder helped to create one of the first Canadian Food Banks in Calgary as well as initiated the Brown Bagging it for Calgary Street Kids program which provides healthy lunches for youth living on the street. In addition WJFB helps to create international food banks, as well as providing food and other supplies to many international food banks.

  • Humanitarian Projects
Disaster Relief is an important focus of WJFB. Emergency projects include providing temporary shelter, food donations, and emergency aid and vaccinations during natural disasters such as flooding and earthquakes. WJFB is also involved in providing international shelters for the homeless, as well as rural development projects.

  • Low Cost Housing/Infrastructure Development
WJFB is hoping to implement international housing projects in order to provide shelter as well as housing technologies to several different developing countries including Bulgaria, Turkey, Venezuela, Columbia, and China. This housing project will also help assist in training local personnel in construction and maintenance of their homes and it is hoped that specialists in each country will be fully conversant with the issues and problems involved in the application of housing technology
